Katmai National Park Fishing & Bear Viewing season is June 7th
through October 4th
Wk#1-June 7-14 Opening week of Rainbow Trout fishing, some
top water action depending on water temp mostly swinging streamers
Articulated leaches, Sculpins, Kiwi muddlers along with Grayling and a
few Arctic Char, Lake Trout and Pike fishing in lake no Salmon this
week. Very limited Bear viewing
Wk#2-June 14-21 Prime traditional Rainbow
fishing, Streamers and mouse patterns along with grayling on dry flies
and a few Char along with Pike and lake trout fishing no salmon
available
Wk#3- June 21-28 Prime Rainbow fishing
good dry fly action and Mousing for Trout, a few sockeye salmon start
showing up around the 18th. Bears can often be seen atop of the falls
searching for the occasional salmon to jump up river.
Wk#4- June 28 –July 5 Prime Sockeye Salmon
and bear viewing in Brooks, Margot and Idavain Creek Trout and
grayling fishing still real strong in creeks and lake trout and pike
and near lake outlets Mousing and streamers and Prime Bear viewing
starts this week.
Wk#5- July 5-12 Prime Bear Viewing & Prime
Salmon fishing Sockeyes and a few Chums showing up Rainbow fishing
average but still available along with Grayling Char, Pike.
Wk#6- July 12-19 Prime Bear viewing.
Prime Sockeye Salmon fishing , Rainbow fishing slowing down due to heavy
runs of Salmon displacing the trout. Lots of Eagle and Osprey action
along with the occassional Wolf cruising the beaches
Wk#7- July 19-26 Prime bear viewing family
vacations. Peak Sockeye Salmon on the fly along with a few
Pink salmon start showing up around the 25th. Rainbow fishing is good
near the lake outlets along with some pike fishing and rainbows in the
bay of islands.
Wk#8- July 26-Aug 2nd Prime sockeye show
and bear show at Lake Outlets. Bears are found consistently at lesser
known creeks. . Rainbow fishing is starting to pick back up and the fish
taking egg patterns and beads. Lake trout and Pike in the lakes along
with some great Trout fishing.
Wk#9- Aug 2-9 Bears are fishing remote
creeks that few have access to (we do!) along with cruising the
beaches, Trout fishing is really picking on egg patterns and Beads
around margot and Idavain creek. Sockeye start spawning this week.
Wk#10- Aug 9-16 Great Bear viewing
Bears are fishing 3 remote creeks that few have access to (we do!)
Great family vacation time for combo trips. Prime Rainbow fishing
again lots of Red Sockeyes spawning Egg patterns and beads for Trout
Char and Grayling.
Wk#11- Aug 16-23 Great Bear Viewing
in small streams and beach combing, Prime Rainbow fishing on egg
patterns. Coho Silver Salmon provide bears the opportunity to,
once again, fish atop the falls. Hot fishing in all the streams and
lakes for all species, Char fishing at its peak
Wk#12- Aug 23-30 Bears are now seen wading
in rivers fishing for dying (bright red) salmon along with eating
berries on the hill sides and open fields.Prime Rainbow and Char fishing
in the creeks, great action on beads and eggs drifting, along with
casting for lakers and pike a few Coho salmon are caught in the mouth of
the lake on streamers.
Wk#13- Aug 30-Sept 6th Bears are in
full winter coats as they continue to eat spawned out salmon out
of the rivers and start feeding on berries on the hill sides. Prime
Rainbow and Char fishing good action drifting beads and flesh Silver
Salmon fishing is good also although starting to slow down.
Wk#14- Sept 6th-13 Bears are in full
winter coats as they continue to eat spawned salmon out of the rivers
and cruise the beaches and local berry patches. Prime Rainbow fishing
for big fish but numbers are down, fishing flesh flies and beads
Wk#15- Sept 13-20 Bears are the biggest
they will be all season. Watch them lay in self-dug belly holes as
they wait for the approaching winter. Prime Rainbow fishing for big fish
but numbers are down, fishing flesh flies and beads along with some
fabulous char fishing.
Wk#16- Sept 20-27 Bears are the
biggest they will be all season. Watch them lay in self-dug belly
holes as they wait for the approaching winter. The chance to
photograph bears in snow is a possibility. Prime Rainbow fishing for big
fish but numbers are down, fishing flesh flies and beads along with some
fabulous opportunities.
Wk#17- Sept 27-Oct 4th The chance to

beaches. Prime Rainbow fishing for big fish but numbers are down,
fishing flesh flies and beads .
