Listed on the National Register of Historic places, Fures Cabin and other landmarks of Katmai National Park help tell the story of this unique landscape. Now used as a safe refuge for Kayakers, and canoers, we make this a part of our stop in the Bay of Islands to see the history of the land. Roy Fure built the cabin in 1926 but because he never became a U.S citizen he was not eligible for a homestead claim and lost his claim when it became a park. But his labor of love can be seen in the roof, walls, and floor all hand-hewn spruce logs with dovetail notching very traditional to his European craftsmanship.
